📘 3. Reading – About The Last of Us

The Last of Us tells the story of Joel, a man who loses his daughter during a terrible outbreak that destroys the world. Twenty years later, society has collapsed, cities are empty, and dangerous infected creatures have taken over many areas. Joel has become cold and distant because the world has taken away the people he loved. Life is now about survival — nothing more.

This paragraph shows how the world of The Last of Us is built on loss and fear. Joel’s pain becomes part of who he is, and it explains why he trusts no one. The story begins with a world that is broken, but also with a character who has been emotionally broken for many years.

One day, Joel receives a mission that changes everything: he must escort a teenage girl named Ellie across the country. Ellie is brave, funny, and curious — the opposite of Joel. But she also carries a big secret: she was bitten by an infected creature and didn’t transform. She might be the key to a cure. At first, Joel sees this mission only as a job, not a responsibility. He doesn’t want to care about Ellie, because caring means risking pain again.

This section highlights how Ellie brings something new to Joel’s life — hope. She represents a possible future for humanity, but also a chance for Joel to feel connected to someone again. Their differences create tension, but also open the door for a powerful bond to grow.

As they travel together, Joel and Ellie face dangerous roads, violent groups, and heartbreaking choices. They learn to protect each other, trust each other, and depend on each other for survival. Their relationship slowly changes from strangers to partners, and finally to something close to a father-daughter connection. The world around them is full of danger, but the bond between them becomes their strongest weapon.

This paragraph shows that survival is not only physical — it is emotional. Joel and Ellie stay alive because they choose to stay together. Their trust grows through conflict, fear, and shared pain, proving that even in the darkest world, human connection still matters.

The story also explores the heavy idea of sacrifice. Many characters give up safety, comfort, or even their lives for the people they love. Joel himself makes a powerful and controversial decision at the end, choosing Ellie’s life over humanity’s chance for a cure. It is a choice full of love, fear, and consequences that follow him forever.

This final part reveals the heart of The Last of Us: love can guide us, but it can also blind us. The story asks difficult questions about what we owe to the world versus what we owe to the people we love. This is why the series feels emotional, complex, and deeply human.

In my opinion, Joel made a difficult but human choice. He didn’t want to lose another person he loved, even if that meant a big sacrifice for the world.

I like how the story mixes danger with hope. Ellie brings new life to Joel’s journey, and their bond makes the series powerful and unforgettable.

Responses

  1. I really like The Last Of Us, because this game has a very good story. And I think that Joel made a human decision because he really loved Ellie, and for him, this decision was the right decision. Because of this, I think that Joel made the right decision, and also because of this I love this game so much, I think that this game is one of the best in the world.

  2. The Last Of Us is my favorite game, I say this because, for me, The Last Of Us teaches us many important things about relationships and decisions. In my opinion, Joel didn’t make the right decision or the bad decision, Joel made a human decision, he just wanted to protect Ellie, because in the past, his daughter died.

  3. In my opinion, Joel made the most human and fatherly decision, and I don’t think that he’s wrong to do that. In fact, I really think that if I was in his body I would do the same thing for Ellie. Also, the fact that he killed everybody at the hospital is not good, but I think that it was the most human decision that he could make.

  4. In my opinion, The Last of Us is one of the best videogames ever and a good reimagination of the post-apocalyptic-world genre. The story of Joel and Ellie gives players a big lesson about the importance of bonds and trust even in the most critical conditions. The way the game shows the construction of the relantionship between the protagonists really makes us cry when we discover that Ellie will have to die to save humanity in the end. For me, Joel did the wrong but most human decision at the end when he kills the scientists and saves Ellie. He does not want to lose another daughter again and, due to this, he chooses the human path instead of the utilitarian path.
