Role-playing games, also called RPGs, are games where the player becomes a character inside a story. The player does not only watch what happens. In D&D, players sit around a table, use paper and dice, and imagine a fantasy world. One person tells the story, and the other players decide what their characters do. Later, RPGs moved from the table to computers and video games. Games like Final Fantasy, Baldur’s Gate, and The Witcher used the same ideas from D&D, but now with images, sound, and animation. Players could walk in big worlds, talk to characters, fight enemies, and follow long stories. The player could choose how to play. The player could be strong, fast, or smart. Every decision could change the game.

Cyberpunk 2077 is a modern RPG that uses all these ideas. The game happens in the future, in a big city called Night City.
