📖 3. Reading — About Death Note

Use very simple words, short sentences, and clear ideas.

Death Note is a story about Light Yagami, a smart student who finds a special notebook. When he writes a person’s name in this notebook, the person dies. The notebook has many rules, and only Light can see the shinigami (the spirit of the notebook).

This paragraph shows the start of the story: Light finds the notebook and learns how it works.

Light believes he can use the notebook to make the world a better place. He wants justice, and he thinks he can stop criminals. At first, he feels strong and confident. But soon, Light begins to change. He starts to hide things, lie to people, and protect his secret at all costs.

This paragraph shows how Light starts with good intentions but begins to change.

A great detective called L appears and tries to find the person using the notebook. L is very smart and uses logic, clues, and strategy. Light and L start a “mind battle.” Both boys are very intelligent, and both want to win.

This paragraph shows the fight between Light and L.

In the end, the story makes us think:
Is Light doing the right thing?
Or is he only following his own idea of justice?

💬 Example Comments (easy-level)

I think Light wants justice, but he goes too far. He does not follow the rules anymore.

I think L is better, because he does not use a secret notebook. He uses only his mind.

I like how the story shows that power can change a person. At the start Light is good, but later he changes a lot.

Responses

  1. At first, Light seems like a very just and moral person, but over time he starts to lose his moral compass as he gains more and more power. A similar thing happens with L: he begins as a very intelligent and also just character but with time we can agree that he becomes a really radical person, just like Light. At the end, we can say both of them are extremely similar, just with different ideologies.

  2. I think Light didn’t make justice, he is a psycho, I say this because I don’t agree with his idea, for me the people need to pay for their crimes, in my opinion, a person should not have this power, decide who dies and who lives. Light was so intellectual, but he got lost because of his mind. For me, light is a criminal person too, he is not so different from his victims.

  3. In the beginning, Light was a normal student, but after he found the book, he became a crazy person because he started to kill many innocent and criminal people. Because of this, I think that L is right and Light went too far.

  4. I think that Light always wanted to create a utopian world, but he did bad things to achieve that. Also, Light goes too far to hide his secret too, specially when he starts to kill innocent people. In fact, I don’t think that L is that good too, because he does a lot of controversial things only to get Light. Because of that, I think that Death Note is a really good show, because it develops this thing between L and Light in a very good way, and because of that it is considered by a lot of people the best anime of all time.
