🌱 Introduction — Understanding Family Conflict
Family conflicts are very common, especially between parents and teenagers. They usually happen because people love each other, but do not understand each other. Different ages bring different responsibilities, fears, and expectations.
In Freaky Friday, the story uses a magical situation to show something very real: how hard it is to understand another person’s life when you only see things from your own point of view.
This movie helps us reflect on empathy, listening, and respect inside families.

🧠 Passage 1 — Why Do Anna and Tess Have So Many Conflicts?
Anna and Tess argue a lot because they live very different lives. Tess is a mother, a professional woman, and someone who believes in rules and responsibility. She wants Anna to be organized, focused on school, and careful with her future.
Anna is a teenager who wants freedom and understanding. She feels that her mother does not respect her interests, especially her passion for music. Anna believes Tess only sees her mistakes and never sees her effort.
Because they do not listen to each other, small problems become big fights. Instead of trying to understand, they accuse each other and defend their own opinions.
❓ Reflection & Comprehension Questions
- Why does Tess think Anna is irresponsible?
- Why does Anna feel misunderstood?
- What makes their conflicts become worse?
- Do you think listening could help them? Why?

🔄 Passage 2 — What Happens When They Switch Bodies?
When Anna and Tess suddenly switch bodies, they are forced to live each other’s lives. At first, this situation creates confusion, embarrassment, and even more frustration. They do not know how to act, dress, or speak in the other person’s role.
As time passes, they begin to understand how difficult each other’s lives really are. Tess, in Anna’s body, feels the pressure of school, social judgment, and being a teenager. Anna, in Tess’s body, experiences adult responsibilities, work stress, and parenting challenges.
This experience forces them to stop judging and start learning. They finally see that neither life is easy, just different.
❓ Reflection & Comprehension Questions
- What difficulties does Tess face in Anna’s body?
- What does Anna learn when she lives Tess’s life?
- Why is this experience important for their relationship?
- Would you like to switch lives with someone for one day? Why or why not?

❤️ Passage 3 — What Do They Learn From This Experience?
After living each other’s lives, Anna and Tess learn the importance of empathy. They understand that love is not only about giving orders or asking for freedom, but about listening and respect.
Tess learns to trust Anna more and value her passions. Anna learns that her mother’s rules come from care, not control. Their conflicts do not disappear, but they become healthier and more respectful.
The movie shows that understanding does not mean agreeing all the time. It means trying to see the world through someone else’s eyes.

- What does Anna learn about her mother?

💬 Final Reflection
- What lesson from this movie stayed with you the most?
- Did this story change the way you see family conflicts?
- How can you practice empathy in your daily life?

I think experience is the best way for us to know how to not judge the others and to understand what the other person is going through and feeling. At the same time, experience can teach us how to be more empathetic with each other. It’s because of this that I think that people need to “live the other side” to truly understand someone.
I believe that we can be emphathetic without looking deeply into someone’s perspective when we don’t judge this person’s reality at first sight. In fact, when I don’t understand someone, I never judge immediately because I’m not experiencing this person’s reality.
It’s important to say that when we are judgemental about someone’s life, there’s no place for empathy to grow. “Living the other side” becomes essential in this situation.
I think that it is possible to understand someone without “live the other side”. To me, being an empathetic person is a daily exercise and we don’t need to live a bad situation to feel empathetic. We can exercise this empathy when we serve water or food to a street animal, when we help a friend with something or discuss about their feelings. Because of this, I think that this movie is a great life lesson.
In my opinion, it is an interesting movie because it brings a different perspective about the relationship between moms and daughters. Besides that, this movie is a funny movie with a lot of hilarious scenes, jokes and a big lesson in the end. Because of this, I recommend this movies for families that are struggling with a lot of problems and arguments.
In my opinion, we can use the empathy to understand the people because when we see the other side and discover that everybody has problems. It’s not necessary to “ live the other side “ like the movie to understand someone. Because of this, this movie is a necessary family experience because it brings an amazing reflection about life and relationships.
I think “living the other side” can definitely turn someone into an empathetic person. Imagine, to wear someone’s shoes can be an intense and dramatic experience for people who think that the other people “have it easy”. Like everyone says, right? “The grass is always greener on the other side of the street”. So yeah, experience can change us into empathetic people, but we don’t always need to go through these life-changing and dramatic experiences to develop a sense of empathy. In fact, we can learn how to be more empathetic only through observation. Take this movie, for example, it has this huge lesson about how we must stop judging people around us all the time. When there’s too much judgment, there’s no place for empathy to grow.
To wrap it up, I think watching this movie is a “must”. All families should consider showing this movie to their teenage daughters or sons. Besides that, it’s a hilarious movie and a guaranteed fun family experience.
In the beginning of the film, Ana and Tess fight so much, I think this happens because their lives are completely different from each other. For me, this film is a reflection of life, because it shows that empathy comes from living the other side of the story. For me, this story became so important for me because I know that this is the reality of so many families.
In my opinion, when Ana’s mother became a teenager she learned that Ana’s live is very difficult because of the teachers, friends and many other aspects. Also, Ana when became an adult she learned that the adult live is also difficult because you don’t have free time.
I think if I switched bodies with another person I think that I would not like it, because I don’t know how is this person’s life, because everybody has a problem but sometimes you don’t know them. In my opinion, this movie is very important because it says that we have to understand each other.
And thats why I think that this movie is so important.
In my opinion, I think that is necessary to “live the other side”, because the people would understand each other in just one day.
At the begging of the movie Freaky Friday, Anna and Tess argue because Anna took a test and got a zero, also she went to the detention two times at only one day. But at the night, when they went to the Chinese restaurant, they magically switched their bodies.
At the morning, Anna went to her mother’s work and worked for the entire day, she has to plan a wedding, talk with adults and many other things. Tess went to school and had test, bullies, peer pressure and other things.
At the end, they understood each other and became a better daughter and mother. And because of this, I think that is necessary to change the body with a person with who you argue so much.
Yes, as we can see, the movie doesn’t just teach us to listen to each other’s opinions, but also to respect them.
In the beginning, the mother and the daughter had conflicts all the time, until the moment they switch their bodies and learn that everyone has their own invisible struggle, just like social pressure or even the responsibility of being an adult.
In the end, we can see that it doesn’t matter if you think you’re wrong or if you’re right, everyone has their own opinions and they deserve to be respected.
