📖 3. Reading Passage

How Popcorn Pops

Popcorn is a special kind of corn. Each kernel has a little water inside and a hard shell outside.

This part explains what is inside a kernel.

When the kernel gets hot, the water becomes steam. The steam pushes inside the shell. The pressure becomes strong.

This part explains heat, steam, and pressure.

When the pressure is too strong, the shell pops open. The soft inside becomes big, white, and fluffy. This is the popcorn we eat.

This part explains the pop moment.

Popcorn needs high heat. That is why we cook it in a microwave or a hot pan. After a few minutes, we get a bowl of delicious popcorn.

This part explains why heat is important.

Responses

  1. Yes, I love popcorn so much. I usually eat popcorn when I watch a movie or when I go to the beach with my family. Popcorn is good, but if you put a lot of salt and butter, your popcorn becomes very unhealthy. For me, the explosion process of popcorn is very interesting to study. First you have the kernel. Inside the kernel there is a small drop of water. When you heat this water you create steam. The steam creates a big pressure inside the kernel. This pressure explodes the kernel and creates the popcorn.
