🌍 Introduction — Understanding Expensive Cities
When we study the most expensive cities in the world, we don’t look only at prices. We also look at opportunities, salaries, and life choices.
In many of these cities, salaries are higher, and there are more job opportunities, especially in areas like technology, finance, education, and international business. However, the cost of living also increases. Everyday expenses such as food, transportation, healthcare, and especially rent can be very expensive.
Rent is often the biggest challenge in these cities. Even people with good salaries may need to share apartments, live far from the city center, or spend a large part of their income on housing.
Because of this, living in these cities usually only makes sense for specific reasons. It may be worth it if the job offers strong career growth, international experience, personal fulfillment, or long-term financial benefits. Otherwise, a higher salary does not always mean a better life.
As we study these cities, the main question will always be the same: is it really worth it?

I would like to live in New York City because salaries are high. A person can earn about 5,000 dollars per month, which helps with rent and daily life. However, rent is very expensive, around 3,000 dollars per month. Even so, I think New York is worth it because of job opportunities.
I would not like to live in Zurich. Daily life is too expensive. Bread costs about 7 dollars and rent is around 4,000 dollars per month. I think Zurich is only good for people who earn about 6,000 dollars per month.
Tokyo seems interesting because it is safe and modern. A salary of 4,000 to 5,000 dollars per month can offer a comfortable life, but rent and food are still expensive.

It’s very funny to be here writing this, but after this lesson, I think I started to love Mossoró a bit more. Here, we have many problems, of course, but the basic things are not extremely expensive like in the United States. Can you image paying R$25 for one piece of bread? I know that this comparison is not completely right, because Americans earn a lot of money, but I still think that the cost of life in the USA is too much. At the same time they have a good salary there, important things like rent can be impossible to pay, because it costs more than the normal salary. For this reason, I prefer to stay here in Mossoró and maybe move to Fortaleza in two or three years…
In my opinion, I think that I would like to live in Zurich. This city is located is Switzerland, I would like to live there because of the quality of life and because I know that Switzerland is one of the safest countries. The only bad point is that it is one of the most expensive cities to live. I say this because even a classic bread that is very cheap in Brazil costs 7 dollars. But I think that if you have a good job it is worth it, but if you have a basic job you can not even pay a rent because it costs around 2.500 dollars.
I would live in Manchester, because this city is very near to London, because I would work there, get the money and go back to Manchester. The salary is very good, but the rent is more expensive than the salary, and because of this, I would live in a city very near to London, like Manchester because with my money, I could buy food, a rent and transport. The only bad thing is because every day I would travel to another city, work and receive the money. The quality of life would be good, because with the money, I could do many things like visit malls, go to the cinema and buy candy. And because of this, I would live in Manchester
I would live in Brazil, I don’t know the city that I would live, but I like Mossoró and Fortaleza. I like so much Brazil because the rent is not so bad, and the things are not so expensive too.
And in relation to the places that I can go in Brazil, I can go to São Paulo, Rio de Janeiro and many others cities of Brazil, because I wouldn’t like to live in these cities, I would only like to visit them.
Because of this, I would like to live in Brazil, in a small city like Mossoró, and make trips every year to big cities.
Honestly, I would like to live in Mossoró. I say this because I love my city, and I was born here. This city is so interesting, there are a lot of stories. I know that many people would like to live in United States, because this country is so famous, but I think that the things in United States are so expensive. I can’t imagine buying one bread and paying R$25. The salary in United States is so good, but I still think that it is so expensive. Also, I think that the experience to move on for another country is so scary. I love the country that I grew up in. I love the culture that we have, and I don’t have a lot of experiences in other cities and other countries. Because of this, I think i’m going to continue to live in Mossoró.
I would like to live in São Paulo, this city is very big and important in my vision. The salaries in São Paulo are good, but depends on the area. The rents are relative, you can find expensive and cheap houses to rent. The things in São Paulo are very relative, there is a little bit of everything.
In my opinion, São Paulo is a city of opportunities but you have to work very hard to achieve your objectives and dreams. São Paulo is not for everybody. I think it is the New York of Brazil.
